The Soul of Makhanda is a podcast series produced by Mapule Mokete, that focuses on different artists in Makhanda, particularly in light of the intersections of their identity within their own arts in context of our small, creative town. It also looks at connecting artists to specific audiences that each one of them serves. this season is going to be as inclusive as possible.

We want to give people from all walks of life a chance to express themselves to the world. The reach of art in Makhanda is endless. Join us as we venture into the abyss and look at the economic, social, cultural and political aspects that art has to offer us.

EPISODE ONE
In the first debut episode of The Soul of Makhanda host Jason Maseko invites guests, D.J Homage (Chole Djuma) and Rhodes University student Kevashni Reddy to speak on the financial and economic implications and issues surrounding artistic studies and professions in and around Makhanda.
EPISODE TWO
In the second episode of The Soul of Makhanda host Jason Maseko speaks to Dominic Thorburn, Professor of Printmedia at Rhodes University and Rhodes University Masters student and artistic performer Ashwin May about the underlying politics of art and how they have used their own artwork as political tools; and their interpretations of the political statements and messages of other artists’ work in Makhanda.
EPISODE THREE
In episode 3 of The Soul of Makhanda host Jason Maseko speaks to young aspiring artists Ayanda Maseko, a current Rhodes University Fine Art student and co-founder of Makhanda instagram magazine Abantu, and Zuko Yaka, a current Rhodes University student and talented saxophonist. In this week's episode we shall be discussing the social aspects of art and the engagement dynamics within art.
